GTS has experienced a notable increase in customer inquiries regarding designing pipelines for the purpose of converting commercial, industrial and agricultural users of propane to natural gas. The requests are directly attributed to the dramatic increases in propane prices and utility construction costs to extend natural gas service.

Customer owned or installed pipelines are often a solution when the utility extension allowance does not cover the costs to construct, and is allowed under CPUC rate and tariff provisions. The feasibility of this option is specific to individual situations, such as proximity of natural gas pipelines, customer usage patterns and pressure requirements.
