Design of 44-mile, 30-inch Gas Transmission Pipeline

Project Description
The project consisted of 44 miles of 30-inch gas transmission pipeline constructed in three phases. The pipeline had a maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) of 975 pounds per square inch gauge (psig) and transports up to 475 million cubic feet (MMcf) of natural gas per day. The route traversed prime agricultural property, nature conservancies, and land slated for residential and commercial development. A total of 12 directional drills were required to cross three state highways and nine sensitive areas.

GTS Involvement
GTS performed the pipeline route study and detailed engineering design, and assisted with obtaining permits and acquiring project easements. The project required an Environmental Impact Report per the California Environmental Quality Act. The California State Lands Commission acted as the lead agency. GTS prepared the construction specifications, conducted the job showing, managed and reviewed all project submittals prior to delivery to the jurisdictional agencies, approved all field-generated design-change requests, and prepared the final as-built package.
